Scotland v Macedonia

Scotland have it all to do when they take on Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier. This Group 9 match is a clash that could see Scotland eliminated should they lose.

The side managed by George Burley are presently in 3rd place of Group 9 with 7 points from 6 matches. Those 7 points are the product of 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses with an awful 4 goals scored and 10 conceded. Scotland are coming off of a terrible 4-0 loss away to Norway at the Ullevaal Stadion in June. It will be a tough task for the Scots as they must beat Macedonia and then go on to beat first place Holland as well 4 days after this match. Scotland already lost to Macedonia in their first meeting back in September of 2008 by a score of 1-0. Steven Caldwell has been ruled out because of injury.

Macedonia have not done much in these qualifiers but have been able to take advantage of Scotland’s struggles to jump into a playoff spot. The side managed by Mirsad Jonuz have been able to match Scotland’s 7 points through 6 games but have a better goal difference and will retain second place if they can hold out for a draw in this contest. In their most recent match, Macedonia were able to hold serve at home over Iceland.
