Holland v England

Holland are home to play host to England in a world class international friendly. Both teams come into this friendly in strong position in the world cup qualifying stages as they sit atop their respective groups.

The Netherlands are undefeated in the qualifying stages. In fact, they have lost just one time since Bert van Marwijk was appointed as manager having posted 8 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in 11 matches. Holland have already qualified as they have clinched first place in Group 9 of the UEFA qualifying stage. They will finish their qualifying stage in September with an away day to Scotland.

The biggest news this week for Fabio Capello’s England side is the omission of Michael Owen from the squad list. It had been thought that his move to Manchester United this summer could have opened the door for his return. Therefore, it appears that the England attack will be comprised of Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey- a Capello favorite- Wayne Rooney and Carlton Cole. England’s next qualifier will be at home to Croatia in September. England have 21 points in Group 6 and hold a 10 point edge on 2nd place Croatia who have 1 match in hand.
