The side managed by Fabio Capello lost for the first time in qualifying this week as they fell to the Ukraine away from home by a score of 1-0. The match featured the sending off of keeper Robert Green early in the match and it marked the first time an England keeper had been sent off in qualifying. With Green out suspended this week David James is set to be the starter against Belarus. England are guaranteed a first place finish in group play and Wayne Rooney has been their top scorer with 9 goals.
Belarus were winners at home over the weekend as they held serve over Kazakhstan by a score of 4-0. The win gives the side managed by Bernd Stange 13 points from their 9 matches. Timofei Kalachev scored a brace for Belarus in that contest. Belarus will once again be without their captain Aliaksandr Hleb for this game.
